Overthinking
If overthinking were a career, I'd be at the top of cooperate ladder by now and trust me, I'm not proud to say that. Sometimes I find myself worrying about my family, my (unborn) kids safety, being robbed, my (future) spouse dying, even losing a limb, tribulation, what will happen to my parents when they get older. You name it, I've thought about it.
Now, I know you're thinking.. Girl, you're not even married yet?
See my point?
I'm worried about things that I cannot control and these events haven't even happened yet and most of them never will.
I didn't realize how much I struggle with overthinking until this year. This quarantine really caused me to notice certain things such as, Chocolate Chip Reeses Peanut Butter Cookies have become my new addiction. (This is a judgment free zone right? Ok great.)
Now, what I've realized is that anxiety is a form of doubt because we're not trusting God with our future. He is in control of everything and like Lecrae said, if God is in control, then nothing is out of control. Anxiety causes us to take matters into our own hands, knowing good and well we can't do anything about it.
Here are my battle plan scriptures to fight Overthinking:
Matthew 6:26, 27 & 30: Look at the birds: they do not plant seeds, gather a harvest and put it in barns; yet your Father in heaven takes care of them.
Aren't you worth much more than birds? Can any of you live a bit longer by worrying? It is God who clothes the wild grass—grass that is here today and gone tomorrow burned up in the oven. Won't he be all the more sure to clothe you? What little faith you have!
So do not worry about tomorrow; it will have enough worries of its own. There is no need to add to the troubles each day brings.
Philippians 4: 6-7: Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.
Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Psalm 121: 7: The Lord will keep you from all harm—He will watch over your life;
One of the most powerful tools yet is P r a y e r!
Why? Because it brings us closer to God. A closer relationship + stronger trust will result in no more fear/overthinking. Meditating also helps with overthinking as well. Let me know what your game plan is for crushing overthinking!
